At Ocean City Baptist Church, we are committed to proclaiming the good news that God became a man to save mankind from His wrath. Here are some things you need to know about Jesus Christ, the One whom we proclaim:

He is the Creator. The Bible tells us that “by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Col. 1:16). This fact is fundamental to everything we believe, for if God created us, then we belong to Him. Because we were created not only “by Him” but also “for Him,” then our ultimate purpose in life is to glorify Him. Unfortunately, every one of us rebels against His plan for our lives. Because of our sin nature, each one of us rejects God and goes our own way, whether we recognize it or not. Rather than righteousness, we choose sin; rather than following the Creator, we pursue our own pleasures; rather than glorifying God, we live for ourselves (Rom. 3:10-18).

He is the Savior. In spite of our sinfulness, God graciously chose to pay the price for our salvation. He provided a way for us to return to our original purpose of glorifying Him. Because sin separated us from God, God sent Jesus Christ to be our Savior. The Bible says that God “made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:21). Jesus Christ, the only sinless Man, the only One who didn’t deserve to die, took the punishment that belonged to us by dying on the cross. God’s wrath was poured out on His Son that day so that we might not have to face it (1 John 2:2).

He is the Lord. But Jesus Christ didn’t stay on the cross, nor did He stay in the grave. Proving He had power over death, Christ rose again from the dead and ascended into heaven (1 Cor. 15:1-4). He was no mere teacher, nor was He a mere mortal. He was God in the flesh. He showed plainly that He was the Creator, Savior, and Lord. And His call was – and is – to follow Him. His call is for men and women to become His disciples. His desire is for those who have rebelled against Him to instead obey Him. His call is for us to cry out to Him in repentance and faith. By God’s grace, you can be saved – if you will repent and place your faith in Him (Eph. 2:8-9).
